Halloween is still a month away but Christmas is already making headlines.
Chicago has announced the search is now underway for the city’s official Christmas tree in Millennium Park, and Christkindlmarket has big news for fans of boot-shaped mugs.
First, the tree:
— Nominations are open through 8 p.m. on Oct. 14.
— The tree must be at least 45 feet tall.
— Preference will be given to trees located within 15 miles of Chicago’s Loop, but trees within 50 miles are eligible. In recent years, trees have come from Darien, Morton Grove and Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood.
— Spruce and fir trees are ideal; pine trees won’t be considered as they’re not sturdy enough.
To submit a nomination, send the following information to [email protected] with the owner’s name, address, phone and email. Include a brief description of what makes the tree special and attach at least two photos of the tree, one close-up and one from a distance.
The official tree lighting will take place Nov. 22, and the tree will remain lit until Jan. 8, 2025.
Now, about that mug.
The Christkindlmarket has announced the return of its popular boot-shaped mug in 2024, after a five-year absence.
The mug will have a “sleek black exterior with a warm red interior, adorned with cozy market scenes and holiday-themed designs,” according to organizers.
